Webcaster Free accounts
- How can my listeners tune into my free radio stream?
Included with your free plan is a landing page for your listeners to tune into your radio station – username.on-air.fm
You should link listeners to your page where they will see your station information and a radio player at the bottom of the screen.
Important: with a free account, you don’t get a direct stream URL, if you need the ability to link direct to your audio stream then please upgrade to Webcaster Plus which will unlock your server. This will allow you to use any player, as well as third party services such as online radio directories.
- Can I add my radio stream to directories?
As direct stream linking is disabled, it isn’t possible to get your free stream listed on directories, including Shoutcast, Tune-in, Streama, etc. You can upgrade your server to allow direct linking and directory listings.
- What platforms are supported?
Free accounts are based on the Icecast server platform and run in Shoutcast V1 compatible mode. This means that they work in exactly the same way as the classic Shoutcast V1 platform but with some improvements in terms of performance and compatibility. You can use any Shoutcast compatible broadcast software to connect to your server.
- Why does my server keep turning off?
Free servers are stopped after a period of inactivity, so you will need to login to your account and start the server each time you go on air. If you are connected 24 hours a day then your server will remain online – we only stop inactive servers.
You can upgrade to Webcaster Plus to stop your server from being stopped when inactive – this means that you can start your stream any time without needing to start the server.

- Can I add my radio stream to directories?
Yes! You can register your server on as many radio directories as you like. For Shoutcast servers, you can register for an Authhash directly on the Shoutcast website to get listed. For Icecast users, simply enable directory listings to add your stream to several directories. We also have a useful guide with some links to register on popular radio directories.
- What platforms are supported?
Once upgraded, you can choose between Shoutcast V2 and Icecast V2 in your station dashboard. The Icecast option includes the following configurations:
Standard mode – this is the normal Icecast setup
Fallback mode – allows you to set up a 24 hour stream, with an extra mount point for live broadcasts
Shoutcast compatible – makes your Icecast server compatible with Shoutcast sources (acts like Shoutcast V1)
Both Shoutcast and Icecast support HTTPS streaming.
- Is there a contract period?
None at all! You can pay monthly, 6-monthly or annually and cancel at any time. If you cancel your upgrade, it will remain active until your next renewal date and then expire automatically. You’re not required to give any notice, simply cancel before your renewal. You can then re-subscribe at any time in future.
- Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
Yes, we offer a 14 day refund policy. We are confident that you’ll love the service, but you can request a refund within 14 days of ordering for any reason by contacting our helpdesk.
- Can I upgrade my listener or bandwidth limit?
Yes, if you find that the standard upgrade isn’t enough then please contact support and we will be happy to discuss a custom plan that meets your needs.
